Police Scotland Operation Launched to Reduce Drug Offences & Violent Crimes

Police Scotland has launched an ambitious operation, which is aimed at tackling drug supply, violence and road safety in Scotland.

The appropriately named ‘Operation Core’, will be somewhat limited to Falkirk, Stirling and Clackmannanshire. Despite this, it is widely supported across Police Scotland, with over fifty officers outwith the abovementioned areas together with colleagues from the Operational Support Division, getting behind the campaign.

The four-month long operation, which will take place in the above areas – where a need had been previously identified – will mean see increased police activities. Said activities will include various drug operations, extra police presence on roads and efforts to cut violent crimes in Stirling, Falkirk and Alloa.

Operation Core began on day one with a large-scale ‘anti drug dealing’ drive being carried out, which involved seven distinct operations. Said operations lead to eight drug warrants being executed, seven individuals being detained and a seizure of controlled drugs including cannabis and cocaine amongst others.

In a further move to reduce violence and sexual assault, Police Scotland have published an online video – “Who are you?” which makes it clear how important ‘bystanders’ can be for preventing criminal offences.

Similarly, those wanting more information, can visit the Operation Core Facebook page and or search the hashtag #OpCore on Twitter.

Commenting, John Hawkins who is a Chief Superintendent as well as Divisional Commander for Forth Valley, stated:

“Today’s activity is the start of Operation Core, which aims to tackle the divisional priorities set by those living in the Forth Valley area.

“We listened to the concerns raised to us and we are committed to acting on these issues by tackling them head on. Dangerous driving, violent crimes and drug related offences will not be tolerated on our streets and catching and convicting these criminals is our priority….

“However, while today has been a strong start for Operation Core, we accept that our work does not stop today.

“Forth Valley Division and Police Scotland as a whole is committed Operation Core, and considerable resources will be allocated to the operation over the next four months and beyond. We will not tolerate criminality in our community and we will continue to address any concerns raised to us.”
