People trafficker jailed

In a recent exploitation case, a man was jailed for two years and three months for trafficking women for the purposes of prostitution.

A confiscation order to the value of £1,940 was also made against Engin Nemburt.

The offences came to light when police received intelligence suggesting the occupants of a property in Aberdeen may be involved in prostitution.

Stonehaven sheriff court heard that Nemburt had not only arranged and paid for flights for three Romanian women but also provided premises for them in Aberdeen and Edinburgh. In addition, he designed and paid for adverts on adult websites advertising their services.

“This conviction of Engin Nemburt shows that human trafficking is a crime of exploitation and whilst it does not always involve violence or physical force, the essence of the crime is the exploitation of others,” said Liam Murphy, Procurator Fiscal for the North of Scotland. “I hope this case makes clear the determination of Scottish prosecutors to tackle all forms of human trafficking, which can have a devastating effect on its victims and their families. We work very closely with Police Scotland and with our European neighbours to bring to justice all those who engage in such enterprises.”
