Ally joined the firm in 1999 as a Solicitor and worked exclusively in our busy Criminal Law department. In 2001 he headed up the opening of our then new City Centre office in St Vincent Street, Glasgow and was assumed a Partner in the same year.
On becoming a Partner Ally developed a new focus in two main areas – generating new business opportunities and technology use. Starting in the era of the Yellow Pages, Ally moved the business online by creating The Glasgow Law Practice as a new brand and website identity for the firm. This led the firm to attract new enquiries from early adopters of the internet gaining new clients across Glasgow, Scotland and from further afield. In tandem, Ally took an interest in improving technology use in the firm leading to the adoption of cloud based platforms at an early stage, meaning our lawyers could work remotely from as early as 2012. As the online element of the business gained momentum the entire firm adopted The Glasgow Law Practice name in the same year.
Ally became a Consultant to the firm as he left full time practice to pursue further online business opportunities focused on the legal sector. This has led him to work with law firms and legal technology companies throughout the UK, along with now teaching Legal Innovation And Technology to both students and fellow lawyers. In 2020 he founded Hey Legal, an online learning platform for lawyers which was awarded Support Team of the Year in the Scottish Legal Awards in 2021. He continues to provide strategic assistance to the senior leadership of The Glasgow Law Practice.
