Crime figures at 35 year low

The latest official crime statistics show that recorded crime fell again last year to its lowest level since 1976.

The 323,000 crimes recorded in 2010-11 represents a 4% reduction on the previous year and the lowest level in 35 years.

Overall clear up rates are in line with the last two years’ recent high level of 49%, whilst the figures show a significant rise in the clear up rate for violent crime from 67 to 72% – to a 35 year high.

The figures also show that crimes involving handling of offensive weapons are down 11% on last year.
