The latest official crime statistics show that recorded crime fell again last year to its lowest level since 1976.
The 323,000 crimes recorded in 2010-11 represents a 4% reduction on the previous year and the lowest level in 35 years.
Overall clear up rates are in line with the last two years’ recent high level of 49%, whilst the figures show a significant rise in the clear up rate for violent crime from 67 to 72% – to a 35 year high.
The figures also show that crimes involving handling of offensive weapons are down 11% on last year.
