Chris joined our criminal court department at the start of 2014. He splits his time between our High Court Office in the Saltmarket and our Baillieston and Cambuslang offices. Chris made an instant impact when first appearing in court with eight acquittals from his first ten trials. He regularly appears in Sheriff & Justice of The Peace courts across the West coast of Scotland, representing clients in relation to a wide range of criminal matters.
Chris works predominately in the areas of: Criminal Law, Road Traffic Law and Child Law. Chris has helped numerous clients keep their driver’s licence by establishing ‘exceptional hardship’ in various courts across Scotland and has successfully argued the ‘no likelihood of driving’ defence on behalf of clients facing the charge of ‘drunk in charge of a vehicle’. He regularly appears in the Children’s Referral Court and at Children’s Hearings, representing both child offenders and parents who have been referred to the Children’s Reporter.
Chris has also enjoyed success representing clients at the Criminal Injuries Compensation Tribunal as well as representing clients at Parole Hearings and has also advised clients in relation to Licensing issues.
As a student Chris was an advisor at the University of Strathclyde Law Clinic where he assisted clients with employment law issues and small claims court actions. He was part of the law clinic’s Prisons Project where he regularly attended HMP Barlinnie and HMYOI Polmont to deliver presentations to prisoners on their rights under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. He also operated as a Football Agent Licensed by the Scottish FA and completed a dissertation in the field of Sports Law.
Chris holds a BA (hons) degree in Sport & Law from the University of Stirling as well as gaining an LLB in Law and completing the Diploma in Legal Practice at the University of Strathclyde.
