Professor Krappmann is a member of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child and will supervise the launch of Do the Right Thing. The action plan embraces the 2008 recommendations of the UN Committee which set out where the UK was falling short in fully implementing the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child.

At the heart of the new plan is the improvement of Children’s rights in Scotland. Over the next four years the Scottish Government will focus on improvement in 21 areas including promoting positive parenting and improving the participation of children and young people in schools.

Tam Baillie, Scotland’s Commissioner for Children and Young People, was positive about the proposed development stating: “this plan demonstrates the Scottish Government’s commitment to ensuring that children’s rights are considered and incorporated into law, policy and practice. It acknowledges that whilst progress has been made – for example on increasing the minimum age for prosecution to 12 – more needs to be done.” The action plan sets out to guarantee children the best start in life and the provision of continued support to allow children to live happy lives to their full potential.
